Part of Alleghany Regional Hospital's mission is to provide students with opportunities to grow and learn while they’re pursuing a healthcare degree. We do this in two ways – one through hands on experience and the other through the HCAid Program.

Summer Externship for Senior Nursing Students

This exciting 12-14 week summer learning experience is open to senior nursing students who have completed one year of clinical experience and have the ability to perform approved procedures. Our program prepares students for life as a registered nurse and offers a chance to experience nursing firsthand. The program begins the end of May and continues through the first week of August.

As an extern, you will work with an RN "buddy". You will have the opportunities to:

Observe and assist the staff RN with the nursing process of assessing needs and planning care
Provide activities of daily living
Take vital signs
Obtain specimens
Perform complex procedures with RN supervision

How to apply:

Complete an employment application (available through Human Resources)
Be available for interviews
Provide a recommendation from at least one instructor
Willing to work shift work and weekends
