Hospital’s Breast Imaging Center Meets National Quality Standards
September 21, 2011
September 21, 2011 Low Moor, VA – The Breast Imaging Center at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany has once again received recognition for meeting national quality standards for its mammography services. Last week, the Food and Drug Administration gave the breast center a perfect score during its annual inspection under the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). The results of the inspection revealed the breast center received the highest rating possible, with an “All Items in Compliance” rating.
The intensive inspection compares specific items in six major areas including equipment performance, technologist QC, medical physicist surveys, personnel qualifications, medical reports and outcome audits.
The philosophy of the MQSA and its implementation, through standards and inspections, is to support continuous improvement and mammography services and to ensure women that their mammograms are produced and interpreted accurately.
“The mammography technologists, Alice Tucker, Kathy Buchanan, Kathy Lee and Dianne Loving are to be commended for their dedication to our breast imaging center,” said Connie Salyards, R.T.-R, Director of Radiology. “They should be recognized along with our radiologist for helping us develop an exceptional Breast Imaging Center for our patients.”
Mary E. Zelenik, M.D., serves as the supervising radiologist and Bruce Banning, M.D., is the interpreting radiologist.
“Our rating reflects our commitment and the dedication for our staff to ensure every woman receives high-quality care at our breast imaging center,” said Greg Madsen, CEO, LewisGale Hospital Alleghany.
